CM Omar Abdullah Congratulates Jammu Kashmir MMA Fighter Owais Yaqoob on BRAVE CF 107 Victory
Srinagar, Aug. 3, 2026 [VoM News]: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday congratulated mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Owais Yaqoob for his impressive victory at BRAVE CF 107 in Burgas, Bulgaria, where he defeated previously unbeaten Bulgarian fighter and two-time IMMAF World Champion Delyan Georgiev.
Calling it a proud moment for JAMMU and Kashmir and the country, the Chief Minister praised Owais for bringing international recognition to the region through his outstanding performance.
“Heartiest congratulations to Owais Yaqoob on this remarkable achievement. Defeating an unbeaten two-time IMMAF World Champion at BRAVE CF 107 is an extraordinary feat and a testament to his hard work, dedication and exceptional talent,” Omar Abdullah said.
He added that Owais’ success would inspire young sportspersons across Jammu and Kashmir to pursue excellence and believe in their abilities. The Chief Minister wished the Pulwama fighter continued success and expressed confidence that he would bring more laurels to the region and the nation.
The 28-year-old Owais secured the biggest victory of his professional career by stopping Delyan Georgiev via technical knockout in the opening round of their 68-kg catchweight contest. He finished the fight in just four minutes, handing the Bulgarian his first professional defeat.
With the win, Owais improved his professional record to 6-1, extending his winning streak to six consecutive fights, while Georgiev’s record dropped to 3-1.
Despite entering the bout as the underdog, Owais dominated from the opening bell. Before the fight, he had confidently predicted a first-round finish and delivered on that promise with an aggressive and clinical performance.
Representing his roots, Owais made his walk to the cage wearing a traditional Kashmiri karakuli cap, a black pashmina shawl and carrying the Indian tricolour.
After the victory, an emotional Owais thanked his supporters and reflected on the challenges leading up to the bout.
“Alhamdulillah! Thank you Bulgaria for not supporting me, but one day you will love me. We are professional fighters. I want a belt for India. You don’t know how much pressure was on me. We travelled for 40 hours, had no sleep for two days and worked on my weight,” he said.
Widely known as the “Pride of Kashmir”, Owais has emerged as one of India’s fastest-rising MMA stars after bouncing back from a defeat in his professional debut to register six consecutive victories.
The BRAVE CF 107 triumph marked his third appearance in the promotion, following first-round stoppage victories at BRAVE CF 98 and BRAVE CF 103. He also trains with the renowned Team Khabib and the American Kickboxing Academy system and was nominated for BRAVE CF’s 2025 Breakout Fighter of the Year award.
