UDF Protests in Kerala Assembly Over SFIO Inquiry Against CM’s Daughter’s IT Company
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) staged protests in the Kerala Assembly after the Speaker, AN Shamseer, declined to entertain the opposition’s adjournment motion for a debate on the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) inquiry against an IT company owned by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter, T Veena.
Speaker’s Ruling and Opposition’s Reaction
The Speaker’s decision not to entertain the adjournment motion led to protests by UDF members, who entered the well of the House holding placards and demanding the Chief Minister’s resignation. The UDF members alleged that the Chief Minister was involved in massive corruption, particularly related to a monthly payment scam involving his daughter’s IT firm.
Leader of Opposition’s Allegations
VD Satheesan, the Leader of Opposition, accused the Chief Minister of avoiding the Assembly session knowing that the opposition intended to raise the issue. Satheesan reiterated serious allegations against the Chief Minister, emphasizing the income tax settlement board’s failure to receive papers on multiple occasions. He labeled the situation as massive corruption and argued that the Chief Minister does not deserve to hold office.
Disruption of Assembly Proceedings
Satheesan criticized the ruling party legislators for not allowing UDF MLAs to speak and disrupting assembly proceedings. The UDF’s focus remains on bringing attention to the SFIO inquiry and the alleged irregularities involving the Chief Minister’s daughter’s IT company.
