Tragic Death of Purdue University Student Neel Acharya Confirmed
The Tippecanoe County Coroner has confirmed the tragic death of Neel Acharya, an Indian student studying at Purdue University. Authorities were alerted to a possible dead body on Purdue’s campus, and upon arrival, they discovered the deceased student. Neel Acharya was reported missing, and his mother had appealed for information on social media. The Consulate General of India in Chicago stated that they were in touch with Purdue University authorities and Neel’s family, offering support.
Appeal for Information on Missing Student
On Sunday, Gaury Acharya, Neel’s mother, had posted on social media seeking information about her missing son. Neel Acharya was last seen by an Uber driver who dropped him off at Purdue University. The authorities, along with the Consulate, were actively involved in addressing the situation.
Confirmation of Death and University Response
In an email to the university’s computer science department, interim CS head Chris Clifton confirmed Neel Acharya’s death, expressing condolences to students and faculty. The tragic incident follows the recent brutal killing of another Indian student in Georgia, highlighting concerns for the safety and security of international students studying in the United States.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago assured the family of Neel Acharya of all possible support, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration between authorities and educational institutions to ensure the well-being of students from abroad.
