Tragedy Strikes Durga Puja Celebrations in Bihar: Stampede Claims Lives of Two Women and a Child
A tragic incident unfolded during Durga Puja celebrations in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, resulting in the loss of two women and a child, with over ten others sustaining injuries. The stampede occurred at the Raja Dal Durga Puja pandal during the ‘Maha Navami’ festivities.
Crowded Celebrations Turn Tragic
The stampede transpired late in the evening during a crowded event. Local authorities revealed that the mishap was exacerbated by the absence of security personnel at the pandal to manage the large gathering.
The Gopalganj Superintendent of Police (SP) provided further insights into the incident, stating that the stampede began around 8:30 pm when a child fell, causing pandal-goers to scatter in panic. In an attempt to assist the fallen child, two women were also caught up in the chaos and trampled, ultimately succumbing to their injuries during their transit to a hospital.
Authorities Respond to the Tragedy
After the stampede, local authorities acted swiftly to address the situation. The Gopalganj SP confirmed that the local magistrate and a police team arrived at the scene and took control of the situation.
Pandal Safety and Future Precautions
The incident underscores the need for enhanced safety measures and crowd management during festive celebrations, particularly at densely attended pandals. While Durga Puja is a time of jubilation and worship, it is equally essential to prioritize the safety of the devotees and visitors to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. Further details regarding the stampede are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
