The CEO of Icon recently offered a $50K referral bonus to anyone who could help find the top 0.1% AI engineers, highlighting just how valuable this specialty has become. To identify the most in-demand AI roles, Yijin Hardwareexamined a combination of key factors, including salary, hiring activity, growth, and visibility. The average base salary reveals how much companies are willing to invest in a skill, while job postings indicate where demand is strongest. Meanwhile, annual growth rates show how quickly interest in these roles is rising, and search volume reflects how much interest they’re generating. Time to hire reflects how quickly employers fill these positions, with shorter times pointing to greater urgency. By combining these metrics into a single score ranging from 1 to 99, the study highlights which AI roles offer the greatest value and opportunity heading into 2025.
Here is the summary of the findings:
| Role Type | Base Salary ($) | # of Jobs | Job Growth Rate | Score |
| Data Scientist | 117K | 11K | 36% | 99 |
| Data Engineer | 109K | 23.3K | 34% | 80 |
| AI Solutions Architect | 166K | 2.3K | 35% | 66 |
| AI Product Manager | 128K | 5.5K | 34% | 65 |
| Machine Learning Engineer | 123K | 6.1K | 36% | 51 |
| AI Consultant | 136K | 1.4K | 34% | 48 |
| AI Research Scientist | 146K | 1.4K | 31% | 45 |
| MLOps Engineer | 126K | 124 | 40% | 44 |
| Robotics Engineer | 111K | 2K | 18% | 32 |
| Reinforcement Learning Engineer | 106K | 1.8K | 36% | 31 |
