Survey Reveals Alarming Levels of Drunk Driving in Delhi
A recent survey conducted by the non-profit organization Community Against Drunken Driving (CADD) has shed light on the prevalent issue of drunk driving in Delhi. The survey, encompassing 30,000 respondents from diverse sections of society, including pedestrians, cyclists, and various modes of transport users, revealed that a staggering 81.2% admitted to having driven under the influence of alcohol.
Widespread Safety Concerns and Accidents
Beyond the concerning drunk driving statistics, the survey highlighted broader safety concerns on Delhi’s roads. Approximately 67.8% of respondents expressed feeling unsafe, particularly in areas with high vehicle density. Over 90% believed that the number of accidents had increased, and 71.1% claimed to have witnessed accidents, ranging from minor to major, causing grievous injuries. Unfortunately, the survey noted that the number of respondents reporting accidents or providing assistance to victims was less than 15% of the total.
Personal Experiences and Injuries
An alarming finding was that 85.3% of respondents had been involved in a road accident, experiencing either minor or major incidents and, in some cases, sustaining physical injuries. The survey, conducted to assess the impact of human behavior on road safety, underscores the urgent need for comprehensive measures to address drunk driving and enhance overall road safety practices in Delhi.
