Supreme Court Extends Nawab Malik’s Bail in Money Laundering Case
The Supreme Court has extended the interim bail of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik by three months on medical grounds. Malik had been granted a two-month bail in August, which expired this week. He was arrested on February 23, 2022, in connection with a money laundering case. The Supreme Court had released him on interim bail due to his chronic kidney ailment. The Enforcement Directorate did not object to the extension of bail purely on medical grounds.
Malik’s latest medical reports showed that he is still suffering from his chronic medical condition. The Court extended his bail, and the terms and conditions set by the trial court will continue to apply. In August, the Court had admitted his appeal for hearing, asking the Enforcement Directorate to respond to his plea for regular bail.
Malik had been arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in a case related to the funding of terrorist activities.
