Supreme Court Collegium Recommends 13 Judicial Officers for High Court Judgeship
In a significant development, the Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and comprised of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sanjiv Khanna, has recommended the names of 13 judicial officers for appointment as judges of various high courts across India.
Elevation of Judicial Officers to Delhi High Court
Among the recommendations, judicial officers Shalinder Kaur and Ravinder Dudeja have been put forth for appointment as judges of the Delhi High Court. The collegium has opted not to endorse a senior judicial officer, citing cogent reasons provided by the High Court’s own collegium. Notably, Ms. Kaur, though having recently retired from the Delhi Higher Judicial Service, has been deemed suitable for the position considering her proven track record, merit, and integrity.
Promoting Diversity and Inclusion
The collegium has emphasized the importance of ensuring greater representation of women on the Bench to promote diversity and inclusion in the judiciary.
In the case of Mr. Dudeja, the collegium noted that the Judgment Evaluation Committee has accorded an ‘A’ rating to the judgments authored by him. The assessment made by the Government did not contain any adverse observations about his integrity or reputation. Considering his extensive experience in judicial service, merit, and integrity, the collegium found him suitable for appointment as a judge of the Delhi High Court.
Recommendations for Other High Courts
The Supreme Court collegium has also recommended the names of several judicial officers for appointment as judges in other high courts. This includes five judicial officers for the Kerala High Court, three for the Bombay High Court, one for the Gujarat High Court, and two for the Tripura High Court. Additionally, advocate Ravindra Kumar Agrawal has been endorsed for a judgeship in the Chhattisgarh High Court, despite objections raised by the Centre.

These recommendations underscore the commitment of the judiciary to maintain justice, uphold integrity, and ensure the inclusion of deserving candidates in the legal system.
