Srinagar, a city of rich cultural heritage, is taking a giant leap towards a greener and more sustainable future with the introduction of 100 electric buses. This significant step marks the beginning of a new era in public transportation in the region.
Revolutionizing Urban Mobility: A Bold Vision for Srinagar
The introduction of electric buses is part of a grand vision to create smart mobility solutions that align with ecological balance. In his address, the Lt. Governor emphasized the importance of optimizing transportation services to create a harmonious balance with the environment. These electric buses are not just a mode of transportation but a crucial step towards achieving carbon neutrality in line with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The Lt. A Sustainable Future: Reliable and Affordable Public Transport
These electric buses will serve 15 intra-city routes and 2 inter-city routes, ensuring that they run a minimum of 200 kilometers per day from 8 AM to 8 PM. The Lt. Governor highlighted the significance of making reliable, affordable, sustainable, and safe public transport accessible to daily commuters and office goers in Srinagar city and surrounding districts. He also emphasized the need for dedicated charging stations to remain functional year-round, guaranteeing the continued operation of the e-buses.
A Technological Revolution: Smart Features and Seamless Experience
The electric buses come equipped with advanced features, including Universal Access and HVAC systems, on-board vehicle tracking, CCTV, and emergency stop facilities. To enhance passenger convenience, a dedicated mobile app and online ticket payment facility have been developed. All buses are seamlessly integrated with Srinagar Smart City’s Integrated Command & Control Centre, ensuring efficient operations and real-time monitoring.
The future of public transportation in Srinagar looks promising, and this marks just the beginning. With a dream of Metro Rail becoming a reality in Srinagar and Jammu, the region is poised for a transformative shift in urban mobility. As the city embraces electric buses and sustainable transport solutions, it’s on the path to becoming a model for other urban centers seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and improve the quality of life for their residents.
