Srinagar, Sept 7: Srinagar Police have swiftly intervened after a distressing video emerged online, showing a young man violently assaulting his elderly parents in S.A. Colony, Budgam.
The video has triggered widespread outrage, with social media users demanding strict legal consequences for the perpetrator.
The incident came to light after a written complaint was lodged by the accused’s mother, Taja Begum, wife of Ghulam Ahmad Wani.
According to the complaint, her son, Mohammad Ashraf Wani, had not only physically assaulted her and her husband but had also barred them from entering their own home for the past year.
Acting on this complaint, the police have registered a criminal case (FIR No. 77/2024) under Sections 74, 126 (2), and 351(2) of the BNS at Nowgam Police Station.
Mohammad Ashraf Wani, a resident of SA Colony, Nowgam, has since been taken into custody for questioning as the investigation into the incident continues.
The video, which shows Wani violently striking his elderly parents, has been widely condemned. Social media platforms have been flooded with expressions of anger and calls for stringent legal action against Wani.
The graphic nature of the video has only intensified public outcry, further pressuring authorities to ensure justice is served.
In response to the widespread condemnation, police officials have reassured the public that they are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have pledged to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the elderly couple.
