In a significant breakthrough in the battle against prostate-related ailments, Dr. Khalid Zaffar Masoodi, a scientist at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Kashmir (SKUAST-K), has successfully secured a patent for his innovative functional food designed to combat Prostate Cancer and associated health issues. The research leading to this patent was conducted in Masoodi’s laboratory, which had submitted the patent application some time ago for a food supplement known as Magic Food Taxo. This research project received funding from the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

Magic Food Taxo is a groundbreaking food supplement containing molecules specifically designed to improve prostate-related health by directly targeting the Androgen Receptor, a crucial gene implicated in the progression of Prostate Cancer. Dr. Masoodi’s laboratory conducted an extensive screening of approximately 400 medicinal herbs and crops, ultimately identifying 16 anti-cancer molecules. Remarkably, five of these molecules were sourced from underutilized edible plants traditionally consumed in Kashmir for centuries.

Clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of Magic Food Taxo in alleviating symptoms associated with Prostate Cancer, Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BHP), and Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS). Dr. Masoodi’s laboratory has not only secured the recent patent for this innovative food supplement but has also obtained three other patents for their ongoing research initiatives.
