The French Embassy highlighted Tharoor’s tireless efforts in deepening Indo-French ties, commitment to international peace, and being a long-standing friend of France as the basis for conferring this prestigious honour. Tharoor, in accepting the award, expressed his immense honor, viewing it not just as an individual achievement but also as a celebration of the collective efforts to foster cultural exchange and diplomatic ties between India and France.
Promoting Friendship and Cooperation Between India and France
In his acceptance speech, Tharoor expressed his commitment to nurturing the friendship between India and France, fostering cooperation for the betterment of the shared global community. He reflected on a defining moment during his French trip in 2002, underscoring the significance of France’s reverence for its writers.
Tharoor’s remarks included a poignant memory of witnessing the interment of Alexandre Dumas, where he remarked on the French’s exceptional ability to honor their writers. He concluded by pledging to continue efforts to uphold the common values that connect the two nations.
