Scenic Journey: Union Minister for Railways Shares Picturesque Snow-Covered Valley in Kashmir as Train Passes Through
Srinagar and other plain areas of Kashmir experienced the season’s first snowfall, transforming the landscape into a winter wonderland. After a prolonged dry spell, heavy snowfall covered mountains, train tracks, and roads, bringing cheer to residents and tourists alike.
Snow-Covered Journey:
Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, shared a picturesque video of the “Polar Express” passing through the snow-covered Baramulla-Banihal section in the Kashmir Valley. The train, traversing through the white expanse, showcased the scenic beauty reminiscent of the film ‘The Polar Express.’ The video captured the serenity and charm of Kashmir’s winter.
Lifeline and Means of Transportation:
The passenger train on the Baramulla-Banihal section plays a crucial role in ensuring mobility when roads are covered with snow. Trains become an important means of transportation during the winter, connecting various parts of the valley and providing a lifeline for the residents.
Cheerful Residents and Tourists:
The snowfall brought joy to residents, marking the season’s first significant snowfall in the plains of the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar. The region experienced a prolonged dry spell during the winter, making this snowfall a delightful occurrence for both locals and tourists associated with the tourism sector.
Impact on Transportation:
However, the heavy snowfall led to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to shooting stones between Ramsoo and Banihal. The alternate Mughal road and the Srinagar-Leh highway also closed to traffic due to snow accumulation. Despite the temporary disruptions, the snowfall added a touch of magic to the Kashmiri landscape.
The Met Office forecasts continued cloudy weather with light snow at few places, gradually improving in the afternoon. Friday is expected to remain dry, with a possibility of very light snow at isolated higher reaches.
