Sarfraz Bugti, the former caretaker minister of Pakistan, recently joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), following his resignation from the position of interior minister, as reported by The Express Tribune.
Bugti made this announcement during the PPP’s workers convention in Turbat, Balochistan, which witnessed the presence of PPP leaders, including co-chairman and former President Asif Ali Zardari.
During his address at the convention, Bugti expressed his desire to witness the restoration of peace in Balochistan under Zardari’s leadership.
He emphasized his commitment to enhancing infrastructure, particularly in health and education sectors, for the people.
He urged Zardari to build a modern hospital in Turbat, akin to the one established by the PPP in Sukkur.
Bugti highlighted the PPP’s vision to change the prevailing narrative against Pakistan, asserting that the party would play a transformative role. His resignation from the caretaker government was accepted by Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar on December 16.
Reports suggest further resignations from the interim cabinet may follow, in anticipation of the upcoming election scheduled for February 8 next year.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) officially declared the general elections to be held on February 8, 2024, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order.
Dawn reported that the election schedule will commence on December 19, with the returning officer issuing a public notice. Additionally, the ECP will resume training sessions for returning officers (ROs) and district returning officers (DROs) in preparation for the electoral process.
