Samsung Secures Patents for Tri-Fold and Rollable Display Technologies
Samsung has received patents from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its innovative tri-fold and rollable display technologies. These advancements in display technology offer new possibilities for future consumer electronics devices.
The tri-fold display technology, showcased by Samsung at CES 2022, features a display module with “at least one folding area.” Unlike traditional foldable phones with outer and inner screens, Samsung’s tri-fold display expands to reveal three panels simultaneously. This patented technology, known as Flex S, promises enhanced versatility and immersive viewing experiences.
Additionally, Samsung has secured a patent for a device equipped with a rollable display housed within a deformable enclosure. The housing is designed to accommodate the display panels, which retract when the device is closed and extend when in use. This rollable display technology allows for a seamless transition between a compact form factor and a larger screen size, offering flexibility in usage scenarios.
While these patented technologies showcase Samsung’s commitment to innovation in display design, the company has not yet announced plans for their implementation in consumer electronics devices. It is possible that Samsung is refining these technologies to address performance and durability concerns associated with foldable devices before introducing them to the market.
