
Report reveals half of JK government school libraries are bookless
More than 50 per cent of government-run schools in Jammu and Kashmir that have library setups lack textbooks for students and teachers, official data has revealed.
According to data, only 49.78 per cent of government schools in JK have books available in their libraries, while 50.22 percent have none.
The figures further reveal that 73.73 per cent of private schools in Jammu and Kashmir provide library facilities with books, whereas 26.27 per cent of private school libraries lack books. However, in government-aided schools, library book availability stands at 100 per cent.

It is also noteworthy that more than 98 percent of educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir lack digital library services. Additionally, JK ranks second-highest in India for the number of untrained teachers at the Pre-Primary and Upper Primary levels and fourth-highest at the Primary level.
Recent official data highlights that Tamil Nadu has the highest number of untrained teachers, followed by Jammu and Kashmir, where only 22.3 per cent of Pre-Primary (Kindergarten) teachers have received proper training.
Official data further reveals that among 24,296 government and private schools in J&K, only 373 institutions (1.53 per cent) have digital libraries. Additionally, over 12 lakh students are enrolled in 5,452 private schools, while over 14 lakh students are enrolled in 18,785 government schools. (KNO)
