Rajnath Singh visit Jammu Tomorrow: Security Review Amidst Anti-Terror Operations in Rajouri-Poonch
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Jammu on Wednesday to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. This visit comes in the wake of the recent killing of four soldiers in an ambush on an Army vehicle in the Rajouri district and the reported deaths of three civilians after being allegedly picked up by the army for questioning.
According to an official statement, Rajnath Singh’s visit is aimed at reviewing the security scenario amidst the ongoing anti-terrorism operations in the Rajouri-Poonch region, triggered by the unfortunate incident on December 21 when four army soldiers lost their lives.
Earlier this week, Army Chief General Manoj Pande visited Rajouri-Poonch to evaluate the situation on the ground. During his visit, he received briefings from senior Army officials regarding the progress of counter-terrorism operations and the measures taken to enhance the security apparatus.
In response to the incident, the Army has initiated a formal inquiry and attached a Brigade Commander on Monday. The Brigade Commander of the 13 Sector Rashtriya Rifles is under investigation in connection with the deaths of three civilians that occurred in Rajouri subsequent to the attack on December 21.
The incident unfolded in the Derr Ki Gali area of Rajouri, where terrorists ambushed two army vehicles, resulting in the tragic loss of four soldiers. In response to the attack, the army launched an extensive anti-terrorism operation in the Rajouri and Poonch areas.
As part of the operation, several locals were reportedly taken in for questioning. Regrettably, three civilians allegedly lost their lives during this process. Disturbing videos circulating on social media depicted individuals in uniform engaging in actions that appeared to be mistreatment of civilians.
In light of these events, the government has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the incident. Additionally, compensation and job opportunities have been announced for the families of the deceased civilians as a measure of support during this challenging time.
