Rahul Gandhi Criticizes PM Modi on Caste Census and Economic Promises in Rajasthan Rally
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, actively campaigning in Rajasthan ahead of the November 25 assembly elections, has taken a critical stance against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During a rally in Sadulshahar, Sri Ganganagar district, Gandhi questioned Modi’s stance on the caste-based census and his self-identification as OBC (Other Backward Class).
Debate Over Caste Census
Rahul Gandhi highlighted the ambiguity surrounding the population of OBCs in India. He pointed out the lack of precise data on the backward communities, questioning Modi’s response to the caste census. Gandhi emphasized that while Modi claims there is only one caste, the poor, he still identifies as OBC, which Gandhi suggests is contradictory.
Questioning Economic Promises
The Congress leader also targeted Modi over unfulfilled economic promises, particularly the commitment to deposit Rs 15 lakh in every citizen’s bank account. Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of engaging in grandiose but empty rhetoric, contrasting this with Congress’ approach to consistent work. He alleged that while Modi did not fulfill his promise to the people, he waived loans worth Rs 14.5 lakh crore for Arab millionaires.
Rajasthan’s Political Landscape
The assembly polls in Rajasthan are poised for a keen contest. Gandhi’s speech is part of the Congress’ efforts to consolidate its position in the state, where in the 2018 elections, the party won 99 seats against the BJP’s 73 in the 200-member House. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, supported by BSP MLAs and Independents, currently leads the state government.
As the election day approaches, both major political parties are intensifying their campaigns, with issues such as caste census and economic policies being central to the political discourse.
