PTI Supports PkMAP Candidates in Balochistan By-Elections
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has declared its support for the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) led by Mahmood Khan Achakzai in the upcoming by-elections in Balochistan. PTI Deputy Secretary General Khadim Hussain announced that PTI will endorse PkMAP’s candidates from PB-50 and PB-51 constituencies. PTI’s decision was made following discussions led by PTI founder Imran Khan and the party’s provincial leadership. Not only has PTI withdrawn its own candidates from these constituencies, but they will also actively campaign for PkMAP candidates.
By-Election Preparations and Candidates Overview
On April 18, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) distributed 6.23 million ballot papers to the returning officers (ROs) for the by-elections across 21 constituencies. The breakdown includes approximately 2.55 million voters for five National Assembly constituencies and 3.61 million voters for 16 provincial assembly seats. The ballot papers, differentiated by green for National Assembly and white for provincial assemblies, have been provided to ensure a smooth voting process.
A total of 237 candidates are competing for the 21 vacant seats across national and provincial assemblies. The breakdown consists of 47 candidates for five National Assembly seats, 16 seats in the Provincial Assembly, with Aseefa Bhutto Zardari elected unopposed for NA 207. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has 23 candidates, Punjab has 154, and 12 candidates are vying for the vacant seats in the Balochistan Assembly.
The by-elections will take place on April 21, covering five National Assembly seats, 12 Punjab Assembly seats, two Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seats, and two Balochistan Assembly seats. The ECP has provided all necessary election materials to provincial election commissioners and ensured coordination with the ministries of Interior and Defence, as well as provincial law enforcement agencies. The election schedule was announced by the ECP on March 13 for the by-elections across 23 National and Provincial Assembly seats.
