SRINAGAR: The State Investigative Agency (SIA) on Friday attached the property of Mohammed Liyaqat, who has been evading arrest for over a year in a narco-terrorism case in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said.
The property, measuring 1 kanal and 9 marlas of land and located in Khari Karmara, was attached under Section 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The attachment order was issued by the principal sessions judge of Poonch. “The entire process was executed under the directions of the honourable court,” an official stated.
Liyaqat and his associate, Arshad, are wanted in a case registered last year. They face charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Indian Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Authorities are intensifying their search for Liyaqat and continue to investigate the networks facilitating illegal narco-terrorism activities. This move is part of a broader effort to curb the financing of terrorism through drug trafficking in the region.
The SIA has been rigorously pursuing cases involving narco-terrorism, a significant concern in Jammu and Kashmir due to its impact on both security and public health. By attaching properties of suspects, the agency aims to disrupt the financial networks that support these illegal activities.
Officials believe that actions like these will serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar activities and send a strong message about the government’s commitment to combating narco-terrorism.
The search for Liyaqat and Arshad continues, with authorities urging the public to provide any information that may lead to their capture.
