Preparation for Amarnath Yatra 2024: High Altitude Medicine Training Commences for Healthcare
Today, on April 19, 2024, the Regional Institute of Health & Family Welfare (RIH&FW) in Dhobiwan initiated a comprehensive training program on High Altitude Medicine and Basic Life Support (BLS) in readiness for the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra 2024. Under the guidance of Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, the esteemed Director of Health Services Kashmir, the training aims to enhance the skills of 583 healthcare professionals, including doctors and paramedics, who will be involved in ensuring the safety and well-being of pilgrims during the annual pilgrimage.
Conducted in coordination with the Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of respective districts, the inaugural session of the training saw the participation of the first batch of doctors from various districts within the Kashmir division. Expert trainers from RIH&FW Dhobiwan led the sessions, which included lectures, hands-on courses, and workshops at the skill stations. The primary focus of the training is to equip healthcare personnel with advanced skills necessary for the effective management of emergency situations, particularly high altitude sickness, during the Amarnath Yatra.
The training, which commenced today, is scheduled to continue until May 1, 2024. It is part of a concerted effort to ensure the safety and well-being of all pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey to the Amarnath Cave Shrine.
