In a tragic incident in Shahdol district, Madhya Pradesh, a local revenue department official, patwari Prasann Singh, was killed by a tractor-trolley involved in illegal sand transportation. The incident occurred near the Son River in the Gopalpur area, Deolond police station in-charge Rajkumar Mishra reported. Singh, who was on duty and posted in Khadda of Bohari tehsil, attempted to intercept the tractor-trolley but was fatally run over by the driver.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest

Following the incident, swift police action led to the identification and arrest of the tractor driver, Shubham Vishwakarma, aged 25. Shahdol’s Superintendent of Police, Kumar Prateek, informed PTI that a murder case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Vishwakarma, a resident of Maihar district. The police have seized the tractor involved in the incident, and the vehicle’s owner has been identified.

Crackdown on Illegal Sand Mining

The incident underscores ongoing efforts by local authorities to combat illegal sand mining in the region. District collector Vandana Vaidya mentioned that a joint team comprising the revenue, mining departments, and police had conducted inspections in the area on November 23, seizing illegally mined sand. The crackdown on illegal sand mining activities continued until 8.30 pm on Saturday. However, the fatal encounter occurred later that night when Singh and his colleagues revisited the site to assess the situation. This incident highlights the dangers faced by officials in the fight against illegal mining activities and raises concerns about the safety of government employees tasked with enforcing the law.
