The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has extended the deadline for filing nomination papers for the upcoming general elections, concluding now on Sunday, as reported by ARY News.
Responding to appeals from various political parties, the ECP granted an extension for submitting nomination papers.
The revised schedule includes scrutiny of nomination papers from Monday until the 30th of this month.
Appeals regarding acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be lodged until January 3, with decisions anticipated by January 10. Subsequently, the updated list of candidates will be released on January 11, with a withdrawal deadline set for January 12.
Symbol allocation is scheduled for January 13, while the general elections are slated for February 8. Furthermore, the ECP has extended the application submission period for foreign observers interested in monitoring the elections.
The window for applications has been prolonged from December 31 to January 20.
An ECP official mentioned receiving responses from 103 representatives of foreign media residing in Pakistan.
To ensure compliance with the electoral code of conduct, the ECP has printed over 200,000 accreditation cards and appointed district monitoring officers and teams for oversight purposes.
