    More than 6,400 voters in Chhattisgarh have chosen to use the Election Commission of India’s vote-from-home facility, which was introduced for individuals above 80 years of age and those with more than 40% disability in the state assembly elections scheduled for this month.

    Key Highlights:

    • A total of 6,447 voters have opted to utilize the vote-from-home facility in Chhattisgarh’s upcoming state assembly elections.
    • These elections are to be held in two phases on November 7 and 17, covering the 90-member Chhattisgarh assembly.
    • The total number of eligible voters in these elections is 2,03,93,160, including 1,01,35,561 males, 1,02,56,846 females, and 753 transgenders.
    • Among the voters, 2,457 individuals are over 100 years old and have been participating in elections since the beginning of the democratic process.
    • Additionally, 7,29,267 voters in the age category of 18-19 are first-time electors.
    • The Election Commission of India has introduced the option of voting through postal ballots at home for voters aged over 80 or with more than 40% disability, with 6,447 such voters choosing to exercise this facility.
    • The Raipur City North constituency has the highest number of third-gender voters, with 96 registered.
    • In the four constituencies of the capital city, Raipur, there are 275 transgender voters.
    • Among the total voters, 19,907 are service voters, and there are 17 overseas Indian voters.

    The introduction of the vote-from-home facility is aimed at making the electoral process more accessible for elderly citizens and individuals with disabilities, ensuring that they can exercise their voting rights with ease. This initiative is part of efforts to promote inclusivity and encourage active participation in the democratic process.
