Omar Abdullah Visits Fire-Hit Marwah, Vows Increased Support for Victims

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the Marwah area in Kishtwar on Thursday to meet the victims of a recent fire. He voiced his concern for their condition and assured them that assistance would be provided.
“It is our responsibility to be here and let people know they are not alone. We are here to help them rebuild their lives,” local news agency KINS reported.
He announced an increase in relief aid and said the government had already made efforts to provide initial help. He also appealed for more support from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, hoping this would bring additional assistance.
Omar outlined further aid under the Prime Minister Awaaz Yojana scheme, saying that victims would receive help to rebuild their homes. He acknowledged the need to restore homes quickly and responded to concerns about a lack of basic facilities like bathrooms. “The bathrooms will come when the houses are built. First, we need to give them a roof over their heads,” he said.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the focus was on helping the victims, not on politics. “I’m not here for politics. We are here to help people recover from this disaster,” he reassured.
His visit comes at a time when families in Marwah are struggling to recover from the fire and rebuild their lives.
