Nine MBBS Students Suspended, Expelled from Hostel for Ragging Juniors at Doon Medical College – Uttarakhand
Dehradun, January 20 — Nine MBBS students of Doon Medical College were suspended and expelled from the hostel on Monday after being found guilty of ragging and assaulting junior students, officials said.
The disciplinary action follows an inquiry conducted by the college’s Anti-Ragging Committee, which investigated an incident reported on January 12 involving the alleged assault of two junior students inside the hostel. The students against whom action has been taken belong to the 2023 and 2024 batches.
According to officials, two of the senior students have been handed the strictest punishment. They have been suspended from classes for two months, expelled from the hostel and internship for the remainder of their course, and fined ₹50,000 each.

Seven other students were suspended from classes for one month and barred from staying in the hostel for three months, the officials added.
The inquiry report has been formally submitted to the Principal of Doon Medical College, Dr. Geeta Jain, who said the institution follows a zero-tolerance policy on ragging. “Doon Medical College is a ragging-free campus. Any such behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” she said.
Reacting to the incident, Uttarakhand’s Medical and Medical Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat described it as “extremely unfortunate” and said he had directed the college authorities to ensure strict action. He stressed that the punishment should serve as a deterrent.
“Incidents like these raise serious questions about discipline and order in educational institutions. Such conduct will not be accepted,” the minister said.
College authorities said the action was taken in line with anti-ragging norms to ensure student safety and maintain a disciplined academic environment.
