NIA Team to Visit Gagangir Terror Attack Site in Jammu Kashmir

A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is en route to the site of a terror attack in Gagangir, Jammu and Kashmir, where a doctor and six construction workers were killed.

The team, led by a Superintendent of Police from the agency’s regional branch in the Union Territory, is expected to reach the scene by noon.

The attack occurred late Sunday at a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Ganderbal. Terrorists, believed to be at least two, opened fire on a group of laborers and staff as they returned to their camp in Gund.

The assailants indiscriminately targeted both local and non-local workers. Two laborers died instantly, while three others, along with a doctor, succumbed to their injuries later. Five more workers are being treated for injuries.

This incident has raised concerns due to the targeted nature of the attack. Security forces have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah condemned the attack on X, calling it a “despicable act of cowardice.” He promised the attackers would face the harshest response from security forces, offering condolences to the victims’ families.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed his outrage, calling it a “dastardly” attack on unarmed laborers working on a critical infrastructure project. He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased.
