The Navi Mumbai police have successfully rescued eight women following the bust of a sex racket and the arrest of an autorickshaw driver, an official reported on Saturday.
The operation began after police rescued a woman from a hotel room, based on information provided by the auto driver.
Acting on a tip-off about a gang that sent women to various lodges for prostitution after soliciting customers online, the police arrested the auto driver, Pradeep Yadav. Inspector Prithviraj Ghorpade of the anti-human trafficking cell led the operation.
To gather evidence, the police deployed a decoy customer, which led to the recent capture of Yadav. Yadav was known for ferrying women to hotels as part of the racket.
Following his arrest and subsequent interrogation, the police rescued a woman, who then provided crucial information that led to the rescue of eight more women from a room in Shiravane, located in the Nerul area.
In addition to Yadav, the police arrested two men, Vishnu alias Vikaskumar Janki Yadav, 28, and Indrajit Indradev Prasad, 63. However, the suspected kingpin of the racket, Shambu Upadhyaya, is still at large.
An FIR has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Turbhe police station, according to the official.
The Navi Mumbai police continue their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and dismantle the entire operation, reinforcing their commitment to combating human trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals.
