Mumbai Customs Foils Smuggling Attempts: 15.89 Kg Gold Seized in 3 Days
In a series of successful operations, the Mumbai Customs department, under the Airport Commissionerate, revealed the interception and seizure of over 15.89 kg of gold, valued at around 8.07 crore, spanning thirteen different cases within a mere three days.
Stringent Actions Yield Results: Uncovering Gold in Various Concealed Spots
Between February 27 and March 1, the vigilant Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, successfully identified and seized the illicit gold in 13 cases. The discovery unfolded through meticulous checks, exposing concealed clothes, body concealment by passengers, and even gold ingeniously hidden in the corner piping of a check-in bag.
Continued Vigilance: Earlier Success on February 18-24
This recent feat follows a similar accomplishment earlier in February, from the 18th to the 24th, where the Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, confiscated over eight kg of gold, valued at approximately Rs 4 crores. Additionally, five iPhones were seized across eight distinct cases. The smuggled gold was found ingeniously concealed within the frame of a check-in bag, boxes of crockery, attire worn by passengers, and even within a handbag.
The Mumbai Customs department remains committed to thwarting illegal activities and ensuring the integrity of the nation’s borders. These successful operations underscore the effectiveness of their vigilant efforts in curbing smuggling and safeguarding the economic interests of the country.
