MS Dhoni hands over CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad : IPL 2024
Ruturaj Gaikwad Named Chennai Super Kings Captain for IPL 2024 Season
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made a significant leadership change ahead of the IPL 2024 season opener against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Right-handed opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been appointed as the new captain, taking over the reins from the legendary MS Dhoni.
This marks a notable shift in leadership for the franchise, with Gaikwad set to lead the team onto the field at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.
Gaikwad Takes Charge
In a statement released on the franchise’s official website, CSK confirmed the news, stating that MS Dhoni has handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Gaikwad, who has been an integral part of CSK since 2019, brings with him a wealth of experience, having played 52 matches in the IPL during his tenure with the team. With Gaikwad at the helm, CSK looks forward to the upcoming season and aims to build on its past successes.
A New Era Begins
The announcement of Gaikwad’s appointment as CSK skipper was also made through the tournament’s social media accounts. Gaikwad participated in a pre-captains photoshoot, where he met with other teams’ skippers, marking his debut as a captain in the IPL.
This marks a significant milestone in Gaikwad’s career, as he steps into the leadership role for the first time in the prestigious tournament. This will only be the second time in IPL history that MS Dhoni won’t start a season as the skipper of CSK.
The first instance was in IPL 2022 when Ravindra Jadeja briefly took over the captaincy before Dhoni reclaimed the role midway through the season. With Gaikwad now leading the charge, CSK aims to make a strong statement in the IPL 2024 season and continue its legacy of success in the tournament.
