Mining Department Cracks Down on Gypsum Theft: Seizes Six Trucks in Kathua
In a significant development today, the Geology and Mining department made a noteworthy move by seizing six trucks loaded with gypsum at Lakhanpur toll post. The incident unfolded during routine checking, bringing to light a blatant violation of rules in the transportation of minerals.
Routine Check Unveils Violations
District Mineral Officer (DMO) Rajinder Singh, conducting a routine check at Lakhanpur, discovered six trucks engaged in the illegal transportation of gypsum. The trucks were detained as they failed to produce the necessary legal documents, a mandatory requirement according to regulations.
Legal Formalities Lead to Seizure
Despite providing the drivers with an opportunity to present the required documents and evidence in their defense, the trucks were eventually seized. The mineral guards, under the supervision of DMO Rajinder Singh, ensured that all legal formalities were followed before the trucks were handed over to the police post at Lakhanpur.
Trucks Loaded with Gypsum En Route to Punjab
The seized trucks were carrying gypsum from the Samba areas and were headed towards Punjab. However, they lacked the essential valid documents needed for the lawful transportation of minerals. This raises concerns not only about the blatant violation but also the potential environmental and legal ramifications of such activities.
Immediate Reporting to Authorities
Upon seizing the trucks, the Geology and Mining department promptly informed Deputy Commissioner Kathua and Director Geology and Mining, J&K. This swift communication highlighted the illegal transportation of gypsum from mining leases and unauthorized dealers, who were found in violation of established rules.
Legal Consequences Await Offenders
Following the necessary legal procedures, the seized trucks were handed over to the police post at Lakhanpur. They will remain in custody until penalties are realized, and further penal actions are taken in the Joint Director Office in Jammu. This decisive action not only addresses the immediate violation but also sends a strong message about the stringent measures in place against illegal mineral transportation.
