Mehbooba Mufti Appeals for Compensation Following Tragic Incident in Poonch
Mehbooba Mufti, the chief of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to provide a compensation of 50 lakh rupees to those affected by the recent unfortunate events in Poonch. Addressing a press conference, she emphasized the need for support to those allegedly impacted during the police investigation following a terror attack last week.
Mufti expressed concern over the treatment meted out to the people of Rajouri, highlighting their historic support to the country’s armed forces. She urged for compensation, job opportunities, and land allotments for affected families, citing the distress caused to individuals who have been victims of violence.
Furthermore, Mufti raised questions regarding the handling of the situation, emphasizing that visible evidence existed in the alleged video footage, yet an FIR was registered against an unknown person. She expressed dissatisfaction with the authorities’ response and highlighted her own restricted access to the affected families.
Expressing disappointment with the security arrangements during her visit to meet the affected families, Mufti criticized the restrictions imposed upon her and her supporters, highlighting the perceived bias in allowing other political leaders to visit the area.
Previously, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had visited the families of the deceased civilians following an anti-terror operation in Poonch district. Mufti’s discontent stemmed from the limited access she and her supporters encountered while attempting to reach out to the affected families, compared to the access provided to leaders of other political parties.
The incident has sparked a protest and discontent among Mufti’s supporters, with allegations of biased treatment and efforts to conceal information regarding the incident. Mufti’s appeals and demands for fair treatment and adequate support for the affected families reflect the tensions and concerns surrounding the situation in Poonch.
