Major Drug Seizure: Assam Police and BSF Confiscate YABA Tablets Worth Rs 10 Crore

In a significant joint operation targeting drug peddlers, Assam Police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), successfully intercepted a vehicle in Silchar’s Chalchapra area, seizing YABA tablets valued at Rs 10 crore.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the operation’s success, stating, “Acting on a tip-off, @cacharpolice along with @BSF_India conducted a search operation and seized a vehicle coming from a neighbouring State carrying YABA tablets worth Rs 10 crore from the Chalchapra area of Silchar.

Five persons have been apprehended in this regard. Further investigation is ongoing.”

Yaba, a combination of methamphetamine (a potent stimulant) and caffeine, holds origins in Southeast and East Asia, commonly referred to as “crazy medicine” in Thai.

Additionally, in a separate incident, law enforcement arrested five individuals at a scrap shop in the Meherpur Botertol area, Cachar district, for their involvement in drug-related activities.

Among those apprehended were scrap shop owner Amaj Hussain Barbhuyia (30), staff member Mostak Ahmed (25), and others—Rajan Ahmed (21), Chumki Begum Mazumdar, and Mokbul Alam Laskar (29).

The authorities confiscated nine soap cases containing 306.51 grams of heroin from the accused individuals, confirmed Cachar district Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta.
