Major Drug Racket Busted in JK; Eight Arrested
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh, announced the successful busting of a major inter-state drug racket, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals and the seizure of nearly Rs 5 crore in cash and illegal substances. The operation, known as ‘Sanjeevani,’ was initiated to combat the drug menace and began on September 30. During a press conference, Mr. Singh highlighted that Pakistan serves as the epicenter of narco-terrorism, with Jammu and Kashmir functioning as the collection point, while Punjab acts as the receiving point. He also mentioned the use of drones by Pakistan to transport narcotics material into Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Rajouri district and areas along the International Border.

Major Drug Racket Busted in JK: Seizures and Investigation
Under operation ‘Sanjeevani,’ the Ramban police intercepted a substantial consignment of a substance resembling cocaine, with an estimated street value of Rs 300 crore. This seizure involved two Punjab-based peddlers transporting the illicit cargo in an Innova car with a fake registration plate in Ramban. Subsequent investigations and detentions revealed a chain of links in the drug cartel, leading to the recovery of additional cocaine-like substances and Rs 43.17 lakh in cash. Collaborative efforts with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) team in Jammu and assistance from the Punjab Police ultimately led to the apprehension of a major drug magnate, Manjeet Singh from Ludhiana, Punjab. The operation unveiled fraudulent documents, sophisticated equipment, and an extensive cache of assets, including a German-made revolver. Recovered items included numerous chequebooks, passbooks, Aadhaar cards, vehicle number plates, and other fake documents associated with the BJP, Punjab Police, and the Punjab government.
Commitment to Combating Drug Trafficking
The operation represents a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking, reaffirming the commitment of law enforcement agencies to curb the menace of narcotic smuggling in the region. Further investigations are underway to trace any additional accomplices associated with this drug cartel.
