Low Visibility Diverts Vistara Flights Bound for Delhi
Delhi’s low visibility conditions on Saturday led to the diversion of three Vistara flights originally destined for the city. Compromised visibility at Delhi airport, primarily due to the prevailing smog and ‘very poor’ air quality, necessitated these diversions.
Flights Rerouted to Alternate Airports
Two flights from Mumbai to Delhi, Flight UK954 and Flight UK928, were rerouted to Jaipur. Flight UK954 arrived in Jaipur at 8:42 a.m., while Flight UK928 was expected to land at 9:45 a.m. Additionally, Flight UK906 from Ahmedabad to Delhi was diverted back to Ahmedabad, with an expected arrival time of 10:00 a.m. Vistara Airlines communicated these changes and updates through a series of posts.
Delhi’s Air Quality Worsens, Affecting Visibility
The air quality in several areas of Delhi was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category on Saturday. Localities like Anand Vihar and Ashok Vihar experienced particularly poor air quality, with AQI readings nearing 400 early in the morning. The Air Quality Index (AQI) at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was also significantly high at 375 around 10:00 a.m.
Government Measures Amidst Air Quality Crisis
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated earlier in the week that while Grap-3 measures have been lifted in the national capital, the government is focused on strictly implementing Grap-1 and 2 to combat the air quality crisis. The AQI scale classifies 0 to 100 as ‘good’, 100 to 200 as ‘moderate’, 200 to 300 as ‘poor’, 300 to 400 as ‘very poor’, and 400 to 500 or above as ‘severe’.
The situation in Delhi highlights the ongoing challenges faced by urban centers in managing air quality and its impact not only on health but also on essential services like aviation.
