Lok Sabha Phase 1: West UP Sees 60.25% Voter Turnout
In the first phase of the Lok Sabha election, western Uttar Pradesh witnessed a voter turnout of 60.25%. This region encompasses eight parliamentary constituencies: Muzaffarnagar, Nagina, Saharanpur, Kairana, Moradabad, Pilibhit, Bijnor, and Rampur. Of the 80 candidates in this phase, 73 are men and seven are women. Here’s a breakdown of the voter turnout in some of these constituencies:
- Saharanpur: 65.95%
- Rampur: 54.77%
- Muzaffarnagar: 59.29%
- Pilibhit: 61.91%
- Bijnor: 58.21%
- Kairana: 61.17%
- Moradabad: 60.60%
- Nagina: 59.54%

The first phase of the Lok Sabha elections covered 102 parliamentary constituencies across 21 states and Union Territories. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aiming for his third consecutive term. On the other hand, the opposition bloc, INDIA, a coalition of parties, is looking to challenge the BJP’s rule.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has set up 1.87 lakh polling stations and deployed 18 lakh personnel across the 102 constituencies. The Lok Sabha elections will be conducted in seven phases to elect 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha. The election dates for the remaining phases are April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. The results will be announced on June 4. The previous general elections in 2019 also took place in seven phases.
