LG-Sinha Boosts Innovation in J-k with ‘IP Yatra’ and Startup Support
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the ‘IP Yatra,’ a two-day National-Level Intellectual Property Rights conclave in Jammu on Thursday.
During his address, LG Sinha emphasized the pivotal role of intellectual property in propelling the development of Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the state’s commitment to establishing a robust framework for research and development, along with legislation to safeguard intellectual property. LG Sinha announced that the IP facilitation center at the University of Technology would assist startups, MSMEs, and entrepreneurs in registering their ideas and filing for intellectual property rights.
Commending the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, LG Sinha acknowledged their collaborative efforts to raise awareness about Intellectual Property Rights and underscored its critical role in fostering innovation and economic growth.The Lieutenant Governor expressed his belief that the IP Yatra conclave would guide MSMEs, innovators, and startups in effectively utilizing various instruments of Intellectual Property Rights, such as GI tags, patents, trademarks, and copyrights, for the protection and development of their trade and businesses.

During the inaugural session, LG Sinha reiterated the J&K Administration’s commitment to fostering innovation and promoting intangible assets, including Intellectual Properties and Geographical Indications for unique products in the Union Territory. He highlighted that ten handloom & handicraft products and five products from the Agriculture & Allied Sector had received GI tags, benefiting the community and boosting economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
LG Sinha urged all stakeholders and young entrepreneurs to focus on the commercialization of intellectual property, emphasizing the need to nurture its growth for the realization of the goal of a “Creative India, Innovative India.” He also shared key initiatives by universities and higher educational institutions in the UT to promote innovation and cultivate a startup culture in Jammu and Kashmir.
