Large Quantity of Illicit Alcohol Seized in Kupwara, Two Arrested

In a significant operation, the Kupwara Police, in collaboration with Police Post Kalaroos, intercepted a vehicle and seized a large quantity of illicit alcohol, leading to the arrest of two individuals.
The operation took place at a joint naka established at Madmadow Kalaroos, where a vehicle bearing registration number JK09B-6808 was stopped for a routine check.
The vehicle was being driven by Mohd Abass Khan, son of Mohd Ayoob Khan, a resident of Parraypora Kalaroos. Accompanying him was his wife, Mahfooza Begum.
Upon thorough inspection of the vehicle, the police discovered 166 bottles of wine and 12 bottles of beer hidden within, a police spokesman said in a statement.
The discovery of such a large quantity of alcohol, believed to be intended for illegal distribution, led to the immediate arrest of both husband and wife. The vehicle, along with the contraband, was promptly seized by the authorities.
Following the arrest, a case was registered under FIR number 184/24 at Police Station Kupwara. The charges fall under Section 50 of the Excise Act, which deals with offenses related to the illegal possession and distribution of alcohol.
This successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts of the Kupwara Police to curb the illegal liquor trade in the region.
The investigation is ongoing, and further actions will be taken in accordance with the law. The police have urged the public to cooperate in reporting any suspicious activities to help maintain law and order in the area.
