In a continued effort to curb the spread of drugs within the community, the police in Kupwara have apprehended two drug peddlers and seized a significant quantity of contraband substances.
The arrests took place during a routine checkpoint established by a police team from Police Station (PS) Lalpora, as part of their ongoing anti-drug operations.
The two suspects, identified as Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Batpora Magam Handwara, and Tahir Ahmad Sheikh from Tujer Sharief Sopore, were intercepted while traveling from Diver towards Lalpora. Upon searching them, the officers recovered 60 grams of charas in their possession.
A police spokesperson confirmed that a case has been formally registered at PS Lalpora under FIR No. 67/2024, and an investigation has been launched to uncover further details regarding the individuals and their involvement in drug trafficking.
The police are urging members of the public to come forward with any information related to drug-related activities or other anti-social behavior.
