    Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur highlighted the transformation of Khelo India into a significant movement that has nurtured thousands of athletes, excelling at both national and international levels. Speaking to the media, Thakur emphasized the evolution of Khelo India from just a scheme to a widespread movement, showcasing its impact through various events like the Khelo India youth games, university games, and winter games. The initiative has played a pivotal role in identifying and promoting sporting talents across the country.

    Inaugural Edition of Khelo India Para Games

    The first-ever Khelo India Para Games, scheduled to begin on December 11 in Delhi, marks a significant step towards inclusivity in sports. Thakur announced that the event’s mascot and logo would be launched at the Zoravar Auditorium, Maneckshaw Centre in New Delhi. This edition of the games aims to provide a national platform for para-athletes to exhibit their talents and integrate into the top scheme of Indian sports. The event will be graced by the presence of Thakur and Nitish Pramanik, Minister of State, Home Affairs and Youth Affairs and Sports.

    Celebration of Para Sports with Sporting Icons

    The launch event will witness an array of sports icons, including wrestlers Yogeshwar Dutt, Sarita Mor, boxer Akhil Kumar, and former India hockey captain Rani Rampal. Renowned shooting coach Samresh Jung and several prominent para-athletes like Ashok, Avani Lekhra, Pramod Bhagat, Sumit Antil, and Bhavina Patel will also attend. Scheduled from December 10 to December 17, 2023, the Khelo India Para Games will host over 1400 participants from 32 states and union territories, competing in 7 disciplines across three SAI stadiums in Delhi. This event not only highlights the growing emphasis on para sports in India but also reflects the country’s commitment to nurturing and celebrating the talents of para-athletes.
