    As the clock ticks away, the urban local bodies (ULBs) in the picturesque valley of Kashmir are preparing for a significant transition, with the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and other ULBs completing their five-year terms. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the approaching changes

    Srinagar Municipal Corporation’s Term Ending Soon

    The Srinagar Municipal Corporation’s five-year term is set to conclude on November 5, 2023, marking a crucial moment for the capital city’s governance. Simultaneously, four other ULBs in Kunzer, Pattan, Uri, and Watergam are also poised for their terms to end on November 4, ushering in a wave of changes in these regions.

    Urban Local Bodies in North Kashmir

    Moving further north, the term of the president, vice-president, and councilors of the municipal committee in Bandipora will conclude on November 2. The representatives of Hajin and Sumbal municipalities in Bandipora are also set to wrap up their tenure on November 18, 2023. In Budgam district, several municipal committees, including Budgam, Chadoora, Chrar-e-Sharief, Khan Sahib, and Magam, will see their terms end on November 12, altering the landscape of local governance in this region.

    Transition in South Kashmir’s Local Bodies

    In South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, the municipal council Anantnag and municipal committee Achabal will see their terms conclude on October 28. The representatives in municipal committees such as Ashmuqam, Mattan, Pahalgam, Bijbehara, and Qazigund will also experience a shift in leadership as their terms come to an end on November 14.

    Change on the Horizon in Various Districts

    Official data indicates that Dooru-Verinag Municipal Committee’s representatives will see their term end on November 1, while Kokernag’s transition is set for October 31. Similarly, the elected representatives in Kulgam and Devsar municipal committees will experience a change in leadership on October 29, with Yaripora following suit on November 4, 2023.

    Pampore and Tral Municipalities Prepare for Transformation

    The term of elected representatives in Pampore municipal committee is scheduled to end on December 26, marking a change that will impact the town’s administration. In Tral municipality, the transition is set for November 29, ushering in a new era of governance for the region.

    Shopian and Ganderbal – A Dual Transition

    Shopian and Ganderbal districts are not exempt from this wave of change. The lone municipalities in these regions will see their terms come to an end on October 29 and November 8, respectively.
