Kashmir Willow Cricket Bat Makes Debut in Women’s International T20 World Cup
The Kashmir willow cricket bat debuted in the Women’s International T20 World Cup, marking a new chapter for the region’s sports industry after its successful introduction in men’s T20 and One Day Internationals.
During a match between West Indies Women and South Africa Women, West Indies opener Qiana Joseph used a bat made from Kashmir willow by GR8 Sports, showcasing the craftsmanship of the region on the world stage. Other West Indies players, including Aaliyah Alleyne, Zaida James, and Shamilia Connell, also relied on GR8 equipment throughout the tournament.
The lightweight design of the bat, a critical feature for international cricket, was highlighted as Joseph performed. GR8 Sports founders Fawzul Kabir and Mohammad Niaz ul Kabir expressed pride in their achievement, emphasizing the hard work and innovation that went into crafting the bat. They noted that this debut dispelled myths that Kashmir willow bats are heavier or inferior to English willow bats.
GR8 Sports has spent the last four years refining the design of their cricket bats for women through extensive testing and AI-based technology. This milestone follows the company’s previous success in the ICC T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup 2023, where their bats performed exceptionally well. Notably, a GR8 bat was used for the longest six of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
Kabir stated that it took 14 years of research and development to perfect the crafting of Kashmir willow bats for professional use, aiming to break the dominance of English willow in international cricket. This achievement signals a resurgence for the Kashmir bat industry, as more international players begin embracing its high-quality products.
