Karnataka Lokayukta Conducts Statewide Raids on Government Officials
Extensive Raids in Disproportionate Asset Cases
The Karnataka Lokayukta launched a significant operation on Tuesday, raiding 63 locations across the state. These raids targeted 13 government officials, with the actions being part of an investigation into cases of disproportionate assets. This large-scale operation underlines the Lokayukta’s commitment to addressing corruption within the state’s administrative framework.
Seizure of Cash, Gold, Diamonds, and Antiques
During the raids, the Lokayukta officials seized assets including cash worth Rs 6 lakh, 3 kg of gold, diamonds valued at Rs 25 lakh, and antiques amounting to Rs 5 lakh. The recovery of these assets demonstrates the extent of the suspected illegal holdings by the government officials under scrutiny.
Previous Raids and Anti-Corruption Efforts
This operation follows an earlier raid conducted on August 17, where 48 locations across Karnataka, including Bidar, Dharwad, Kodagu, Raichur, Davangere, and Chitradurga, were searched. This previous raid involved various officials, ranging from a former engineer of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike in Davangere to a constable in Bidar and a sub-district officer in Kodagu. The repeated and widespread nature of these raids reflects the Lokayukta’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on corruption and maintain integrity within the government services.
