The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Randhir Jasiwal, on Wednesday confirmed that the two Indian nationals have lost their lives and one still remains missing amid the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has condemned what he described as the “unjust war” targeting Iran during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

According to the Iraqi prime minister’s office, al-Sudani also offered condolences following the death of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Al-Sudani said Iraq would not allow its territory to be used as a launch point for attacks against Iran, adding strikes targeting Iraq would violate the country’s sovereignty.

Switzerland temporarily closes Tehran embassy

Switzerland has become the latest country to temporarily close its embassy in Iran.

The ambassador ‌and five Swiss staff members left Iran by land and are safely outside the country, ⁠the country’s foreign office said.

“They will return to ⁠Tehran as soon as the situation allows.”

Iran reports 206 students, teachers killed since war started

Speaking to the state news agency IRNA, Iran’s education minister says 206 students and teachers have been killed and 161 others injured in joint US-Israel attacks since late last month.

Alireza Kazemi made the remarks on the sidelines of a funeral ceremony for military commanders killed in the war.

Iran ⁠cannot take part in FIFA World Cup after killing of supreme leader, says minister

Iran ⁠cannot ⁠participate in the FIFA World ⁠Cup after the ⁠United States killed its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ‌says the country’s Sports Minister Ahmad Donyamali.

“Considering that this corrupt ⁠regime [the US] has ⁠assassinated our leader, under no circumstances ⁠can we ⁠participate in ⁠the World Cup,” he told ‌state television.

“Our children are not safe and, fundamentally, such conditions for participation do not exist,” Donyamali said.

“Given the malicious actions ⁠they have carried out against Iran, ⁠they have forced two wars on us over eight or nine months and have killed and martyred thousands of our people. Therefore, we ⁠certainly cannot have such a presence.”. AL JAZEERA 

Governor says 52 schools attacked in strikes on Iran’s Lorestan province

The governor of Iran’s Lorestan province says 52 schools and five medical centres have been damaged in the US and Israeli strikes so far, Tasnim news agency reports.

The attacks have destroyed more than 2,500 residential and commercial units across 10 of Lorestan’s counties, while 13 sports centres and two Red Crescent and rescue bases were also attacked, the governor said.

US warns civilians to ‘immediately’ avoid Iranian port facilities

The US military has warned civilians in Iran to “immediately” avoid all port facilities along the Strait of Hormuz where Iranian naval forces are operating.

“Iranian dockworkers, administrative personnel, and commercial vessel crews should avoid Iranian naval ⁠vessels and military equipment,” ⁠CENTCOM said in a statement.

The Pentagon says that about 140 US service members have been wounded in the 10 days of conflict with Iran.

"The vast majority of these injuries have been minor, and 108 service members have already returned to duty," Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in an emailed statement. Eight US service members are currently "severely injured," Parnell added.

The Iranian government has announced that four of its diplomats were killed in an Israeli strike in Beirut two days ago. It has revealed the names of the diplomats, and this delay is in line with tradition here when it comes to high-level assassinations.

The reaction from the Iranian leadership has been one of deep anger that diplomats were killed on the soil of another sovereign nation, in what Iran is calling a “terrorist attack”. Iran’s UN envoy has sent a strongly worded letter to the UN Security Council, demanding the body fulfil its responsibilities, deliver justice, and ensure such incidents are never repeated. The letter called for the perpetrators to be held accountable and argued that Israel must no longer be allowed to act with impunity.

Iran views this attack as part of a broader pattern of destruction of civilian life and acts of aggression against an independent country by the US and Israel on the basis of a bunch of lies.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also tweeted earlier, saying that the claim Iran was planning to attack the US or US forces – whether preventively or preemptively – is, in his words, “a sheer, utter lie”, and that its sole purpose is to justify what he called “Operation Epic Mistake” – a “misadventure”, he said, “engineered by Israel and paid for by ordinary Americans”.

Australia grants asylum to 2 more members of Iranian women’s football team

Australia’s Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke said that two more members of Iran’s women’s football team have joined five other members in seeking asylum in Australia amid concerns for their safety should they return home.

A player and a member of the team’s support staff requested asylum late on Tuesday after five players earlier in the day were granted humanitarian visas allowing them to stay in the country.

Fears for the team’s safety in Iran emerged after Iranian state television labelled players “traitors” for refusing to sing the ⁠national anthem before their first Asia Cup match in Australia. The team later sang the anthem at other matches.

‌Iran’s ‌general prosecutor and foreign ministry spokesperson have said the players have nothing to fear when they return.

Iraqi armed group claims 31 attacks against US forces over past day

The Islamic Resistance of Iraq says it has carried out 31 attacks against US forces in Iraq and the region over the past day.

The pro-Iranian armed group said it carried out a total of 291 attacks in the past 12 days, killing and injuring several US troops.

According to the Pentagon, six US soldiers were killed in an Iranian strike on Kuwait, while another died of injuries from an Iranian attack on Saudi Arabia. It said some 140 others were wounded over 10 days.

UKMTO reports attack off UAE’s Ras al Khaimah

The UK Maritime Trade Operations says an unknown projectile has struck a container vessel some 25 nautical miles northwest of the UAE’s Ras al Khaimah.

It said the master of the vessel reported that the ship has sustained damage, but the extent of the damage is currently not known.

All crew members are safe and accounted for, it added.
