Karnataka Congress Accuses BJP Leaders of Intimidation Ahead of Polls

Karnataka Congress has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against BJP leaders JP Nadda, Amit Malviya, and BY Vijayendra, alleging a social media video aimed at intimidating SC/ST voters to not support Congress in the Lok Sabha polls.

The complaint asserts that the video violates the Model Code of Conduct by portraying Rahul Gandhi and Siddaramaiah in a biased manner and projecting Congress as favoring Muslims over SC/ST communities.

Ramesh Babu, Chairman of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee’s Media and Communication, described the video’s content as intimidating SC/ST members and promoting enmity.

The video, posted on BJP’s official social media handle, depicts Rahul Gandhi favoring Muslim interests over SC/ST communities, according to the complaint. It accuses BJP leaders of portraying SC/ST communities derogatorily and seeks action under the SC/ST POA Act 1989.

The contentious video, posted on BJP Karnataka’s official handle, showcases caricatures of Rahul Gandhi and Siddaramaiah placing a Muslim-labeled egg in a nest alongside SC, ST, and OBC-labeled eggs.

It alleges biased funding distribution by Rahul Gandhi, implying preferential treatment for Muslims. The complaint underscores the urgency to address such divisive narratives ahead of the impending Lok Sabha elections in the state.
