France Ready to Host Lebanon–Israel Ceasefire Talks in Paris
Emmanuel Macron, President of France, has said his country is ready to host ceasefire negotiations between Lebanon and Israel as regional tensions continue to escalate.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, Macron revealed that he had spoken with Lebanon’s top leadership, including the president, prime minister and parliament speaker. According to him, Lebanese officials indicated they were open to direct discussions with Israel.
Macron said Paris could serve as the venue for the talks aimed at achieving a ceasefire and reducing hostilities between the two sides.
The French leader also urged Israel to halt its large-scale military offensive and ongoing strikes, while calling on Hezbollah to end what he described as a “reckless escalation” of the conflict.
“Israel must seize this opportunity to launch talks and a ceasefire, find a lasting solution, and allow Lebanese authorities to fulfil their commitments in support of Lebanon’s sovereignty,” Macron said.
France has frequently positioned itself as a diplomatic mediator in Middle East conflicts, particularly in Lebanon, where Paris maintains longstanding political and historical ties.
