
Justice Arun Palli Recommended as Chief Justice of JK and Ladakh High Court
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Arun Palli, presently serving as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, as the next Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The recommendation comes ahead of the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice, Justice Tashi Rabstan, who is set to attain superannuation on April 9, 2025, reports appearing I the media suggest.
Justice Palli, born on September 18, 1964, brings with him a distinguished legal career spanning over three decades. He completed his graduation in Commerce before earning his law degree from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 1988. He began his legal practice at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where he developed expertise in a wide spectrum of legal domains including civil, criminal, constitutional, revenue, industrial, and labour law.
His career saw a steady rise as he was appointed Additional Advocate General for Punjab in 2004, a position he held until 2007. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in April 2007. Throughout his practice, Justice Palli appeared before several high courts, including those of Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, and argued numerous cases involving complex legal propositions before Division and Full Benches.
Justice Palli was elevated to the Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on December 28, 2013. In addition to his judicial duties, he has taken on key administrative roles, including his appointment as the Executive Chairman of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority on May 31, 2023. He was also nominated as a member of the Governing Body of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) on October 31, 2023, for a two-year term.
With his potential elevation to the top judicial post in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Palli is expected to bring his broad legal experience and administrative acumen to the region’s highest court at a time of critical judicial and institutional consolidation.
