JK: Tailor’s daughter creates history as Rajouri’s first female judge
Bhawana Kesar, the daughter of a humble tailor, has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first woman from Nowshera, Rajouri district, to clear the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service (Judicial) examination.

Bhawana’s journey to success is a testament to her perseverance and determination. Hailing from a middle-class family, her father runs a small tailor shop in Naushahra Bazaar, while her mother manages the household. Despite their modest means, they wholeheartedly supported Bhawana’s educational pursuits.
After completing her schooling, Bhawana pursued a BA LLB from Punjab University, laying the foundation for her future endeavors. Reflecting on her achievement, she expressed her gratitude towards her parents, emphasizing their unwavering support throughout her academic journey.

“It didn’t matter that my father is a tailor and my mother a homemaker; they supported me every step of the way,” Bhawana remarked. Her success serves as an inspiration to others, highlighting the importance of perseverance and dedication in pursuing one’s dreams.

Bhawana is a staunch advocate for education, particularly for girls facing socio-economic challenges. She encourages young girls to pursue their education relentlessly, regardless of the obstacles they may encounter.
Addressing her peers, Bhawana urged them not to succumb to fear or adversity but to bravely pursue their aspirations. “Everything is easy if one can set one’s mind to a task. Just do it!” she exclaimed, emphasizing the power of determination in overcoming obstacles.
Living in close proximity to the Line of Control (LoC), Bhawana recognizes the unique challenges faced by individuals in her native district. However, she refuses to let these obstacles deter her or others from pursuing their dreams.
“I wish to see more judges from my native district. If you want to accomplish something, you can do it against all odds,” Bhawana affirmed, embodying the spirit of resilience and perseverance. Her journey serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring others to strive for excellence and pursue their ambitions relentlessly.
