Key Highlights:
- Muslim scholars and clerics urged legal action against Yati Narsinghanand.
- The letter condemns defamatory remarks made against Prophet Mohammad (SAW).
- Call for restoring communal harmony and respecting religious sentiments.
A group of prominent Muslim scholars and clerics have written to Home Minister Amit Shah, urging action against Yati Narsinghanand for his inflammatory remarks against Prophet Mohammad (SAW).
The letter, signed by leaders such as Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq and J&K’s grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, condemns these comments as deeply offensive and divisive.
The scholars stressed that while freedom of speech is fundamental, it cannot be used to justify hate speech or hurt religious sentiments. “The derogatory remarks have caused severe emotional distress among Muslims and threaten communal harmony,” they said.
They emphasized that India’s diverse society thrives on mutual respect for all religions, and such incendiary comments undermine peace and unity.
The letter appeals to the government to take swift legal action against Narsinghanand under the laws of the land. “This will send a strong message that hate speech and incitement to violence have no place in a civilized society,” the scholars wrote.
They also noted that such a step would reassure the Muslim community that their faith is respected and protected.
Prominent signatories to the letter include clerics from various religious and educational institutions, such as Maulana Rahmatullah Mir Qasmi, Dr. Abdul Lateef Al-Kindi, and Sheikh Nazir Mehdi. The scholars hope that immediate action will restore communal harmony and prevent further unrest in the country.
