In a historic win, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved its highest-ever tally of 29 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Despite this milestone, BJP state president Ravinder Raina lost his Nowshera assembly seat in Rajouri district. National Conference’s Surinder Choudhary defeated Raina by a margin of 7,819 votes, according to the Election Commission’s official data.
Raina, who secured 27,250 votes, fell short to Choudhary, who garnered 35,069 votes. Despite his personal loss, the BJP leader graciously accepted the people’s verdict, expressing his gratitude towards the electorate.
“I have accepted the verdict of the people. I thank them for their support,” Raina said in a statement to PTI.
The 47-year-old BJP leader acknowledged the significant support his party received in the region, noting the historic success with 29 seats. “We are grateful to the people for their overwhelming support and for voting for the BJP. This is a record achievement for the party in Jammu and Kashmir,” Raina added.
While Raina may have lost his seat, the BJP’s impressive performance across the region marks a significant political development. The party continues to strengthen its presence in Jammu and Kashmir, riding on a wave of support that has seen it reach new heights in the assembly elections.
Raina’s concession and his appreciation for voters highlight the democratic process in action, even as his party celebrates its broader success in the state.
